The UK tourist visa application form is filled online, in English, before you visit a visa application centre. There is no paper form for Indian applicants to download and print. The form asks about your travel plans, income, family, past travel and any previous visa refusals, and every answer is checked against the documents you submit later.
This guide walks you through the form in the same order you will see it, and covers what to do if you are applying for your whole family.
Checked against official UK visa guidance on 26 October 2026. The form's wording and order can change, so read each question carefully on the day you apply.

Information to Keep Ready Before You Start
Official guidance lists the information you will be asked for. Keep it ready before you begin.
Asked from every applicant
- Travel dates
- Where you will stay in the UK
- Estimated cost of the trip
- Current home address and how long you have lived there
- Parents' names and dates of birth (if known)
- How much you earn in a year (if you have an income)
- Details of any criminal, civil or immigration offences
Asked depending on your situation
- Travel history for the past 10 years
- Employer's address and phone number
- Partner's name, date of birth and passport number
- Name and address of anyone paying for your trip
- Name, address and passport number of family members in the UK
Your passport must be valid for the whole of your stay. Collect your supporting documents at the same time, so your answers match them. See the UK tourist visa documents checklist.
How to Fill the UK Visa Application Form: Step by Step
Step 1: Start the Online Application
Choose the visa that matches your trip. For tourism, family visits and short business trips, this is the Standard Visitor route. You will also choose the length: a visa for up to 6 months, or a long-term visa valid for 2, 5 or 10 years. If you visit the UK regularly, look at the long-term visa options before you start.
Register with an email address you check daily. All updates, including the decision email, will come to this address.
Step 2: Personal Details and Home Address
Enter your name exactly as printed in your passport. Declare any other names you have used, such as a maiden name or an earlier spelling. Give your current home address and how long you have lived there.
Step 3: Passport Details
Copy the passport number, issue date, expiry date and place of issue directly from your passport. A wrong digit can create problems at your appointment.
Step 4: Family Details
You will be asked for your parents' names and dates of birth, if known. If you have a partner, you may need their name, date of birth and passport number. If you have family members in the UK, you may need their name, address and passport number.
If you are visiting a son or daughter, their details here must match their sponsor letter.
Step 5: Travel History (Past 10 Years)
You may be asked about your travel over the past 10 years. Use the stamps in your current and old passports to enter dates correctly. Do not leave out trips; good travel history supports your application.
Step 6: Employment and Income
Salaried applicants may need their employer's address and phone number. You will be asked how much you earn in a year. Use the figure that matches your salary slips, Form 16 or ITR, not a rounded guess.
Step 7: Trip Details and Cost
Enter your travel dates, where you will stay and how much you expect the trip to cost. The cost should be realistic for your plans and reasonable compared with your income. Read UK visa bank balance requirements to understand how funds are assessed.
Step 8: Who Is Paying for the Trip
If someone else is paying, enter their name and address. Their documents must support what you write here.
Step 9: Criminal, Civil and Immigration History
You must declare any criminal, civil or immigration offences, and answer the questions about previous visa refusals honestly. This includes refusals from any country, not only the UK. If you have had a UK refusal before, it is worth understanding why before you apply again.
Step 10: Review, Pay and Book the Appointment
Read every answer once more with your documents beside you. Then pay the fee online and book an appointment at a visa application centre.
UK Visa Application Form for Family Members
If you are applying with family:
- Each person needs their own application and pays their own fee.
- Each person attends their own appointment at the visa application centre.
- You can apply on behalf of your partner and child if they cannot apply themselves.
- When a family applies together, you do not need to submit multiple copies of the same document.
Parents' forms are often filled by a son or daughter. That is fine, but the parent is responsible for every answer, so go through the final form with them.
Can You Change or Cancel the Form After Submitting?
Changing the Application
You cannot simply edit the form after sending it. Contact UK Visas and Immigration if you need to change something.
Cancelling the Application
You can ask to cancel the application. The fee is refunded only if the application has not been processed yet.
This is why a careful review before submission matters.
What Happens After You Submit the UK Visa Form
- Appointment: you prove your identity with your passport and give fingerprints and a photo. Your passport is returned the same day.
- Decision: usually within 3 weeks of your appointment.
- Email: you are emailed when a decision is made.
- eVisa: if approved, create a UKVI account, confirm your identity and link the account to your eVisa. Access is usually immediate but can take up to 24 hours. See our UK eVisa update.
Common UK Visa Form Errors
| Error | Correct approach |

| Name spelt differently from passport | Copy exactly from passport |

| Trip dates in form differ from sponsor letter | Use the same dates everywhere |
| Old refusal left out | Declare every refusal, from any country |
| Trip cost too low or too high | Give a realistic estimate for your plan |
| UK family member not listed | List family in the UK where asked |
| Email that the applicant cannot access | Use an email that will be checked daily |
